Secrets of War tells the gripping story of how war can divide friends and affect people’s humanity, told through the eyes of best friends Tuur and Lambert during WW II.
1943, the province of South Limburg. Not long after mysterious girl Maartje joins the boys’ class in the middle of the school year, Tuur finds out his father is a member of the resistance. As Lambert’s father is the village’s fascist mayor and Maartje turns out to be Jewish, Tuur and Lambert soon find themselves on opposite ends of the ideological spectrum. Tuur slowly distances himself from Lambert, while becoming closer to Maartje, who lives under an assumed name with a local farmer.
They fall in love, and one day Maartje shows Tuur a pig that the farmer is hiding from the Germans. Lambert has secretly followed them however, and overcome by jealousy of Tuur and Maartje’s relationship he tells his father.
